Jewel Staite spent a lot of time on TV between her teens and her late twenties and most folks probably still wouldn't recognize her name. Not so your average geek sci-fi fanboy - Jewel played the part of fix-anything ship's engineer Kaylee Frye in the TV series "Firefly" and follow-on movie "Serenity" then moved on to the TV series "Stargate Atlantis" as Dr. Jennifer Keller. She seems to fully embrace her "kinda sexy nerd" place in the sci-fi universe.

Canadian-born Jewel got one of her first big breaks as Becca Fisher in the Disney series "Flash Forward". She also spent some time on "DaVinci's Inquest" (a slightly weird coroner show you may have stumbled across on late night cable), something called "Space Cases", the TV version of "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids" and a "troubled teen" series called "Higher Ground".
